Diverticulitis is caused by inflammation of diverticula, pockets within the colon wall. Diverticulitis can cause pain, fevers, chills, as well as serious complications such as perforation, abscess and sepsis. The treatment of Diverticulitis depends on the extent of the disease and symptoms. Non-surgical treatment, including antibiotics, and change of diet can be attempted in mild cases. In severe disease surgery is commonly used as a treatment.
